My children’s lit course does make me think about how much this book is really for children, given the references to very adult concerns — mostly surrounding Uncle Andrew — but I think it works on that level, and if I have children, I’ll give them these books. eel

Nice theology lesson and bit of history for the Chronicles of Narnia. The characters feel quite real, imperfect but trying hard — they’re not completely likeable, sometimes, especially Diggory, but in a quite human way.

I also noticed, that as a Victorian boy, Digory was the most gentlemanly of the English boys – always helping Polly in and out of things or up onto things. Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag.
Obviously that won’t be everyone’s reason for reading it, but I had a not-very-strict Christian upbringing and have studied the Old Testament in a university course during my undergrad, so I am really fascinated by it all! I honestly didn’t know anything about Narnia when I started The Magician’s Nephew because I haven’t seen the movies or read the books before and I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did.
