It isn’t a very easy read, not because the author isn’t a good writer she is but because the Bhutto family’s history is so complicated.
Also helps one understand why Pakistan is in the pits today – because there is so much corruption that the whole country stands at the mercy of a government that only concerns itself with making a buck out of every transaction, and is creating policies and rules to save itself from any and every attempt of being blamed, crippling the country and bringing it to its knees. She introduces herself on the cover as a granddaughter to an executed man, butto niece to a murdered uncle and assassinated aunt and daughter to an assassinated father.
The Bhutto family is intensely controversial. However do not have high expectations in terms of literature fo instead read it if you have a flair for real life family drama presented very attractively. The Shadow of the Crescent Moon: She clearly does not turn a spngs eye towards her father or grandfather, and probably a too-critical eye towards her aunt, but reading this book should be seen as an important alternative view to the many defenders of Benazir Bhutto.
I’m having trouble getting engaged with this book. The book brings out the human side of the suffering they bhutfo went through. She wrote “In fact, the book is an attack on Zardari whom Fatima blames for everything wrong with Pakistan today.

I am glad to have read this book – for it now gives Pakistan a flesh and blood – realistic experiences to tie with – making it impossible to hate or be apathetic to. So read, but read with an open and critical eye. I picked it up from the shelf in the bookstore and decided to take a risk and buy it since the comment on the cover said ”If there’s anyone born to write this story, it is Fatima Bhutto”.
However, the rest of the book is her pining for justice as she reinvents her father a haloed angel who never did any wrong meaning it is heavily biased. One of them, Danny McGrory from the Daily Express, was a personal friend and had been best man at my wedding.
I say nonsensical because all facts and history are thoroughly distorted by her love for her family and murdered father, where he and she are clearly the good guys and the rest are demonspawn.
With all of the current news coming out of Pakistan, it only makes one glad to be American. Written wittly, well constructed with flavors of emotion, curiosity, baisresearch ,deep love and hate of Pakistani political arena. It is a book about a family and nation riven by murder, corruption, conspiracy and division, written by one who has lived it, in the heart of the storm. This book has preoccupied my mind since I started reading it 5 days ago.
