Mengsk is an aristocratic politician with a gentile southern accent and the tactics of a tyrant. Also we get background on his fraught relationship with his nebbish son who nevertheless grows into an enlightened and effective leader in the games. The story of Acturus Mengsk upbringing has really brought much light and development of his character.
As much as I like the Starcraft Universe, I couldn’t like this book. Mar 24, I. Feb 26, Adowt rated it it was amazing. In regards of characters, everybody in the original games, StarCraft and Brood Warhas some sort of distinctive appeal about them whether they be the enigmatic alien Protoss or their ravenous kindred, the Zerg Swarm or those Terran castaways caught-up meddling in between.
Honestly, I have preservation about computer game novelizations, as far as their literary execution concerned, but this book was a pleasant exception.

The book was fairly well written but he isnt one of my favourite characters in the story so it was a little tedious trying ,engsk get through this book but was still keen to find out how he got there. While ,engsk structure of the book made the pacing a little awkward, and had me wondering whether it was worth being emotionally invested in any cha The changes in perspective made this a fun book to read, not just in a recreational manner, but to a small extent as an intellectual activity. I would say that this book is important to the Starcraft universe considering the role Arcturus plays. So be warned, he might bring out sometimes emngsk share of older and heavy duty titles alongside the newcomers.

This book comes from a point in time where videogame novels could suck and still sell, and it really, really shows. This is a must read for all Starcraft fans. Furthermore, it defined my love for the lore of games.

One man dares to stand up to this faceless empire and vows to bring it to its knees: If the point of a back-story is to explain how a character got to where they are, this does the job. Before Arcturus grew to manhood, his father, Angus Mengsk, also defied the Confederacy and sought to end its brutal reign. But while no one asked for mengak story, Graham McNeill crafts competent science-fiction in telling it.
Mengssk interested in story of Starcraft. I think it could have been half of its length to be tolerable. I enjoyed Graham McNeill’s worldbuilding and the mengsl between Korhal, Umoja, Tyrador IX, and the various points around the Koprulu sector where Arcturus and his marines get deployed. The destiny of the Mengsk family has long been tied to that of the Confederacy and the Koprulu sector, but as anew empire rises from the ashes of the past and alien invaders threaten the very existence of humanity, what will the future hold for the next generation…?

However, I doubt that the latter part is mentioned there just as well with any other source material. The changes in perspective made this a fun book to read, not just in a recreational manner, but to a small extent as an intellectual activity. I, Mengsk bridges the gap between the first and second StarCraft games and spans much longer than the typical book set in this universe, going through three generations of Mengsks – Angus, Arcturus one of the Big Bads in the game and finally, Valerian, who was by far the most interesting of the three.
Every woman is attractive and McNeill rubs that in the reader’s face pretty much every time he mentions onea planetary senator’s wife loves cooking new recipes, and pregnancy automatically means the end of a woman’s career.
Okay, I might be slightly biased here because I read this after Flashpointwhere Valerian really shines. Maybe the other ones are better.
