I found the whole idea pretty damn charming. Other books in the series. Durrell indulges himself in all sorts of meditations covering art, the novel and creativity, set within lawrennce outstanding writing and the Freudian allusions. The book ended on a good note with the love affair between Darley and Clea also for Nessim and Justine.

When I think durrel his effect on me as a writer I am reminded of an anecdote from Plato I read back when I was in college: I tried to trace the main relationships in the book and became hopelessly entangled, vis:. I also think Durrell is looking at the nature of truth because he looks at events from several different angles and points of view making the reader question their original judgement.
Even if it had been conceived of as a trilogy, “Clea” fits in neatly. Perhaps, then, Pursewarden in contrast to Proust focuses more on the present than either the past or the future.
If the dude had to be such a force in the book—such a necessary force—then don’t kill him; or write a new character to take his place or just finish cla series.

Lawrence Durrell was born in in India. It is set about seven years later. The narrative momentum forward is counter-sprung by references backwards in time, giving the impression of a book which is not travelling from a tomb but standing above time and turning slowly on its own axis to comprehend the whole pattern.
Few books have been lawrencee as eagerly as Cleathe sensuous and electrically suspenseful novel that resolves the enigmas of the Alexandria Quartet. Though I feel I am fighting what it is exactly.
